Connecticut Supreme Court Rules Same Sex Couples Can Mary
10/10/08 Labels: Breaking News, Equal Rights, Gay Marriage Debate, Laws and Legal Stuff, Lesbians in the US, Marriage and Weddings, Politics, Written by Lezzy Mom 5 commentsToday Connecticut became the third state to legalize same sex marriage. In a 4-3 decision the State Supreme Court ruled that gay and lesbian couples cannot be denied the freedom to marry under the state constitution. The Supreme Court also stated that Connecticut's civil unions law does not provide those couples with the same rights as heterosexual couples.
In 2004 eight same sex couples sued the state after they were denied marriage licenses.
Governor M. Jodi Rell is not pleased with the decision but will not fight the ruling. Rell also thinks that any attempt to fight the decision will not work if done by the legislature.

Expect Vermont next year, or in 2010. And by legislation and not Supreme Court decree. The Dems are setting up to push it once the election's been held.
