I am truly disgusted with his pick.
The number one reason:
You can find the transcript on beliefnet
The issue to me, I’m not opposed to that as much as I’m opposed to redefinition of a 5,000 year definition of marriage. I’m opposed to having a brother and sister being together and calling that marriage. I’m opposed to an older guy marrying a child and calling that marriage. I’m opposed to one guy having multiple wives and calling that marriage.
BELIEFNET: Do you think those are equivalent to gays getting married?
Oh , I do. For 5,000 years, marriage has been defined by every single culture and every single religion – this is not a Christian issue. Buddhist, Muslims, Jews – historically, marriage is a man and a woman. And the reason I supported Proposition 8, is really a free speech issue. Because first the court overrode the will of the people, but second there were all kinds of threats that if that did not pass then any pastor could be considered doing hate speech if he shared his views that he didn’t think homosexuality was the most natural way for relationships, and that would be hate speech. We should have freedom of speech, ok? And you should be able to have freedom of speech to make your position and I should be able to have freedom of speech to make my position, and can’t we do this in a civil way.
For someone to say that the GLBTQ community is the same as those that practice incest or pedophiles is an UNEDUCATED IDIOT!
With that said, Amy Billiett, of Join the Impact has released the following:
JoinTheImpact. com Garners Support from National Grass-Roots Orgs and Media to Light up the Night for Equal RightsNATIONAL – On December 20th, thousands of volunteers from around the country with take to the streets and Join the Impact yet again! In response to the rights lost on November 4th, and recently to the Reverend Rick Warren invocation pick, members of the LGBTQ community will come out by the thousands to “Light up the Night for Equal Rights.” Joining the cause are national groups like the HRC, the Courage Campaign, and Marriage Equality USA, and international news sources like LOGO, 365Gay.com and LezGetReal.com.
A recent LOGO press release states, “As members of the LGBT community and allies gather across the nation, LOGO will keep its audience up-to-date that evening with an “on-air candle” directing viewers to the latest news from 365gay.com, the online source for the latest LGBT news, opinion, video blogs and streaming video news.”
Joining LOGO and 365gay.com is the LezGetReal network of bloggers where JoinTheImpact co-founder, Amy Balliett, was recently invited to act as a guest blogger. “The girls at LezGetReal have shown amazing support for this event by both getting the word out and stepping up to organize in their cities where needed. They truly are an inspiration. ” says Balliett.
Lending their support are grassroots organizations like the Courage Campaign and Marriage Equality USA, and the national Human Rights Campaign. “Marriage Equality USA has done a great deal for this movement and for JoinTheImpact. ” Balliett says. The HRC reached out to Balliett to let her know they were spreading the message and have even added Light up the Night to the home page of their highly trafficked site, hrc.org.
The Courage Campaign added a spark of genius to the event with their “Milk + Love” movement stating, “We want people around California who care about marriage equality to bring their friends and families to see “MILK”, and then convert the emotional resonance of the film into the candlelight vigils following the screening.”
Light up the Night was an idea sparked by one of the many members of JoinTheImpact who utilized the membership platform to put his voice into this movement. The goal of the night is to reach one million people with the message of equality by educating the private sector. Volunteers will take to their local shopping districts on Saturday night and host candlelight vigils in response to the rights lost on November 4th. The recent announcement of Rick Warren’s presence as the invocation speaker at the upcoming inauguration has fueled this need for education. Attendees of the vigil will be asked to shed light on the many rights not afforded to one in ten US citizens. They will do this through passing out educational holiday cards, and wearing their message of “2nd Class Status” for all to see.
“Many don’t even know what basic rights we are fighting for. Few know that ninety percent of the population receives necessary protections under the law that are restricted from members of the LGBTQ community. If we truly are an equal and free country, then everyone would have the same legal protections. Until then, our lack of rights leads to a second class status. This event will shed light on our struggle and bring the conversation of equality to the dinner table this Holiday season.” Balliett concludes.

HRC also has a media plan, they are going to be on every single nightly network newscast tonight as well as an exhaustive list of cable news programs. And over 835 media outlets throughout the country. Tomorrow morning Joe will have an op-ed in the Washington Post! Turn on your TV’s tonight as HRC spokespeople appear across the airwaves speaking out forcefully against Rev. Warren’s selection.

Saddleback Church has contact information here. I am pasting his comment and e-mailing them to let them know I find it offensive and disgusting that a man like him would say something like this.
Let me tell you something, I don’t care what others are saying, WE SHOULD ALL TAKE THIS AS A PERSONAL INSULT. THIS MAN, RICK WARREN, IS AN UNEDUCATED IDIOT. ONE THING IS TO SAY OUR “LIFESTYLE” IS AN ABOMINATION TO GOD, ANOTHER IS TO CALL US PEDOPHILES OR COMPARE US TO THOSE THAT PRACTICE INCEST (WHICH ARE AGAINST THE LAW). REMEMBER, WE LOVE ANOTHER CONSENTING ADULT!
Idiot.
