I would like you to listen to the words of Reverend Joseph Lowrey.
Reverend Lowrey is a Methodist minister who has supported the rights of homosexuals.
While Reverend Lowrey is opposed to same-sex marriage, he believes strongly in marriage equality through civil unions. He called same-sex marriage a culture shock. He strongly disagrees with Pastor Rick Warren in his characterization of homosexuals, and believes that Pastor Warren’s words are wrong and condemns them.
Lowrey will be giving the benediction, that is the closing prayer, at President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Reverend Lowrey speaks with the authority of one who truly believes in what he is saying. There is no hesitation, no fumbling. There is an intense peace around him. It is what impresses me about him.
