Drag Performer Imaje Devera is Hate’s Latest Victim

Imaje Devera was a drag performer whose life was stopped short outside of a gay and lesbian bar in North Carolina.

Imaje was the stage name for Jimmy Ali McCollough, who though he identified as a man engaged in female gender expression through drag performance and female impersonation. McCollough’s body was found near Club Emages, formerly Club Spektrum. Police are not releasing any more information at the time, including how the victim died, citing the sensitive nature of the case.

The website QNotes is reporting that Club Emages owner Dy’Mond Cartier told Raleigh news station WRAL that police said McCollough had been stabbed and that the case was being investigated as a hate crime.
