Shanna Moakler Gay Marriage PSA

I just read on The Celebrity Truth that US Magazine interviewed Shanna Moakler – the director of the Miss California USA pageant – about the fact that she is appearing in a new ad in support of gay rights.

Moakler shot a print ad “slamming” Proposition 8, with two former Miss California contestants, Raquel Beezley and Tamiko Nash.

“I believe Prop 8 lead a campaign of confusion and never made clear what was being asked of the people,” Moakler said in an exclusive statement to US Magazine. “I find most people have a problem with the word marriage. What I hope for is helping others understand ‘civil union’ and then one day helping people learn ‘marriage’ is something not God, not the state or country can solidify, but between two people who love each other.”

Moakler also mentioned to US Mag that although Carrie Prejean has said she lost the Miss USA crown because of her anti-gay marriage answer, Moakler believes that it was because Prejean “wasn’t able to convey compassion for ALL the people that, as MISS USA, she would be representing.”

Moakler was also recently quoted as saying that protesting against Prop. 8 is “wicked awesome”.

When the prop8 campaign started I thought they would be sorry, then came the surprise they won, I said to myself they’ll be sorry anyway, and since then we all have seen How things evolved in the U.S. thanks to California – this was a needed defeat – I’m not into criticizing Californians but sometimes I can’t help but notice things as twice you voted on Bush and it took 8 years to start considering it a mistake, now Miss California was elected and you’re complaining, well I like her, for an afternoon romp, after that she goes home. I can’t compare Belgium and California but with 19 million people there must be more idiots there than with the barely 10 millions in Belgium, (but 52% is a lot), I’m not gay but we didn’t have to vote for or against same sex marriage, our politicians did it for us Vermont style and since 2003 we’re the 2nd country in the world to have it and I have a little more respect for our politicians in this regard, and by the way Belgium almost recalled its ambassador from the Vatican over the condom incident. If I were Californian I’d vote for Newsom, at least he has the guts to stand up for his opinion and it’s high times (did I say High Times?) you get rid of these passé political old farts.
