Top Gun Star Kelly McGillis Comes Out

In an interview with SheWired.com Kelley McGillis announced that for her next relationship it will definitely be with a woman. McGillis said when it comes to dating men, “I’m done with that, and needs to move on in life, and that’s another part of being true to yourself.” McGillis has said that coming to terms with her sexuality has been challenging for her personally and has been an ongoing process since she was about 12.

Most people will remember McGillis, who is 51 now, for her role as Tom Cruise’s love interest in the blockbuster Top Gun. More recently McGillis played a closeted lesbian Army Colonel in a story dealing with Don’t Ask Don’t Tell on the L Word.

McGillis added that “life is a freaking journey, and it’s about growing and changing, and coming to terms with who and what you are, and loving who and what you are.”
