After two tours in Iraq and a bronze star for heroism, U.S. Military Academy graduate Anthony Woods was discharged from the Army on the grounds of “moral and professional dereliction” under the military’s “Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell” policy.
Upon return from his second deployment, Woods began graduate studies in public policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Woods was among a group of students awarded the prestigious Robert F. Kennedy Public Service Award for his work mentoring low-income minorities applying to college and numerous other community leadership activities, including co-founding the first student chapter of the Fuller Center for Housing and making three trips to New Orleans to assist families struggling to rebuild following Hurricane Katrina.
Woods also co-led a group of thirty cyclists across the U.S. raising money for Habitat for Humanity through a non-profit group known as Bike & Build. The group raised over $130,000 and built homes in five different states during the course of the trip across the US.
Now he is running in a special election to replace outgoing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell repeal sponsor, 10th District California Representatives Ellen Tauscher seat in congress, who is taking a job with Hilary Clinton in the State Department as Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security ….
“I believe we need leaders who will stand up and fight for their own convictions – even if they are not always easy or even popular,” Woods says on his campaign website.
Lt Dan Choi also has endorsed Anthony Woods bid for congress and will join Woods at two events in Northern California this month—the first on June 26th in Davis, and the second on June 29th in San Francisco.
“For 10 years, I have known Anthony Woods as a leader and an officer of the highest caliber,” said Choi. “From defending our nation abroad, to fighting for our highest ideals here at home, Anthony Woods exemplifies the real world perspective that is needed to bring about real change in Washington, and I am proud to support his candidacy for Congress.”
This country needs more REAL AMERICANS like Lt. Woods as leaders …. So if you have a couple of bucks you can spare… and also believe this country needs more leaders who will stand up and fight for what is right… sending them to Lt Woods would not be bad a plan.

Ridiculous! Politicians are not embracing the reality and the logistics involved in repealing DADT. One example (there are many…). Consider this. At any one of many deployed sites, why must I, a straight male, share a large, mens shower facility with openly gay men? I find this as objectionable as the Soldiers in the womens showers would find MY presence. And what is the difference? So, will we discriminate against Straight Soldiers by having only mens and womens shower facilities? Or, will we solve this issue by establishing 4 sets of shower facilities (straight men, gay men, straight women, lesbians)? Perhaps the solution (to be fair) is one shower facility for all genders and sexual persuasions? Do you get the picture? It gets a lot more complicated for us in the military than for all of you at home.
And where on Earth does Woods get his bogus “Fact” that 70 % of Americans want DADT repealed?!
