My Big Gay Italian Wedding Premiers in September… The Bird Cage meets the Sopranos?

BGIWPlanning a wedding can be hell… but planning to ruin a wedding can be a hell of a lot of fun!

Big Apple Lesbian Socialites and LGR Contributors Gurlz Action in NYC are reporting that Scott Evans of ABC’s daytime soap “One Life to Live” Dina Manzo of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” and Anthony Wilkinson are celebrating the revival of the 2003 comedic play “My Big Gay Italian Wedding.”

Evans and Wilkinson co-star in the production that will premiere on Saturday, Sept. 12th 2009 at 8:00 PM at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, NY.

The plot of My Big Gay Italian Wedding revolves around the central character, Anthony Pinnunziato, a gay Italian-American from a large, closely knit Italian-American family.

Anthony’s family tries to join their traditional values with his gay lifestyle resulting in a funny, touching and entertaining big Italian wedding.

The cast of characters will include bickering lesbians, an overbearing matriarch, a crazed wedding coordinator and a jealous ex-boyfriend who wants nothing more than to ruin the whole thing, that are sure to leave the audience laughing, crying and having a great time!

The cast will also feature Brett Douglas, Randi Kaplan, Concetta Nichilo, Laura Gaspari, Carla-Marie Mercun, Joe Grimaldi, Liz Gerecitano, Erik Ransom, Diana Limon, Chad Kessler, Kevin McIntyre, Philip Brock, and Dan Hicks.

Sonia Blangiardo and Teresa Anne Cicala will direct.

Folks who have seen this play before say it is The Bird Cage meet the Sopranos.

A portion of the proceeds from the production will be donated to the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic research.
