California Assemblyman Duvall Resigns In Disgrace Over Open Mic Comments

Having an affair is one thing. Many politicians have extra-marital affairs. Having an affair with a lobbyist and then bragging about the details in an incredibly graphic way…well that is something that may result in the given politician having his career truncated rather quickly. That is what happened to Southern California Assemblyman Mike Duvall. Assemblyman Duvall has announced his resignation from his post.

As previously mentioned in LGR, Assemblyman Duvall was caught on microphone giving lurid details of his sexual encounters.

While the comments themselves were likely going to create a major issue for him given their coital and post-coitus analysis, the fact that he was having an affair with a lobbyist was going to quickly derail his career largely due to the fact that it is unethical for a politician to engage in such behavior.

Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, D-Los Angeles, announced that Duvall, R-Yorba Linda, had been dropped from the Utilities and Commerce and Rules committees. Assembly Speaker Bass also asked the Ethics Committee to investigate after conferring with Minority Leader Sam Blakeslee, R-San Luis Obispo.

When Duvall was on the Yorba Linda City council, Chapman University awarded him the Ethics in America Award for his demonstration of the highest ethical standards.

TV station KCAL reported that one of the employees of Sempra Energy of San Diego was sexually involved with Duvall. Sempra Energy has stated that they are investigating, but they do not believe that the report was accurate. Sempra Energy stated that they believe that it is unethical for their employees to engage in this kind of behavior with politicians.

The affair is not likely what has resulted in the sky falling on top of Duvall’s head, but rather the fact that the affair was with a lobbyist.
