Focus on the Family to Cut More Jobs

Lez Get Real has learned that the Conservative Christian Ministry, Focus on the Family, is expected to announce further reductions in its 935-person staff and plans to inform 13 more employees they will be out of a job during a staff meeting to be held at its Colorado Springs headquarters this afternoon.

Last winter Focus on the Family, founded by Dr. James Dobson 32 years ago, was forced by budget problems to eliminate more than 200 positions.

Last year Focus on the Family spent $727,250 on the campaign to ban gay marriage in California and the group has also recently committed $31,000 in Maine to overturn a same-sex marriage law that was just passed this spring.

Dobson’s successor, current president Jim Daly, last month announced that Focus on the Family had a $6 million shortfall in the nonprofit’s $138 million budget and made a special appeal to fundraisers for help.

He also said then he was considering additional cuts in staffing and programs.

Focus on the Family also announced last month it would no longer hold its “Love Won Outex-gay conferences, and that the Orlando, Fla. based Exodus International, would take over that program in the fall.
