Rep. Sestak Wants Voter Support To Bring Respect For Marriage Act to the Floor of the House

Representative Joe Sestak has published an open letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi asking that the Respect for Marriage Act be brought to the floor of the House for debate, and asked for the support of the LGBT Community and our allies in lending weight to the letter by asking us all to electronically sign it. Representative Sestak is running for Senate in an attempt to topple current Senator Arlen Spector.
The retired Admiral has been a vocal opponent of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and of the passage of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act or MREA. The RMA is intended to repeal at least the portion of the Defense of Marriage Act which blocks the Federal Government from recognizing same-sex couples with regards to many Federal benefits.
While President Barack Obama has stated his support for the repeal of DOMA, his Justice Department has come under fire for filing briefs often designed to put an end to lawsuits regarding the law.
