This primary election may be the swan song for Senator Arlen Specter, the on again-off again Democrat who had hoped to not have to run in a primary where he got knocked out of contention, but recent polling is showing that his Democratic Primary opponent, Representative Joe Sestak is catching up to him with the primary election some months off. What is more, a large majority of Pennsylvanians seem to be ready for a new Senator.
According to a new Rasmussen poll, Sestak is within four points of Specter. The numbers are uplifting for those who support the former Admiral given that it was expected that Spector could easily fend off a primary challenge. Currently, Specter leads Sestak in the Rasmussen telephone poll by 46% to 42%, which puts the race well within the “Keith Number” (margin of error and undecideds) of around 14%. Specter is seen very unfavorably by almost one fifth of Pennsylvanians, and only a third of the citizens of that state believe that he should remain a Senator.
The bad news continues to pile on. In the general election, Sestak is beginning to pull even with Republican Pat Toomey. The general election, thirteen months from now, could end up with the Democrats retaining control of the Senate seat from Pennsylvania. According to Rasmussen, Sestak holds a one point lead against Toomey, but Spector is beginning to fall behind Toomey.
Joe Sestak is a two term Representative and former Admiral who is strongly in favor of ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and has testified regarding it in the past.

Thanks for the Clarification. I will do my homework and possibly consider a piece for my separate blog at http://www.oblogdeeoblogda.wordpress. Maybe I can get an interview with Joe Sestak and broadcast his pr gay stance. That being the case, he will be my man – so to speak! I will undoubtedly favor consistency above my personal meeting and experience with Senator Specter.

I think we have to look at our own LGBT interests very carefully. I attended the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for UAFA and Arlen Specter came out in support of equal immigration rights for LGBT. We should poll Sestak and check his stance on this – I have not kept up with his views on LGBT rights, but I really appreciated what Arlen Specter said at the June 3rd hearing. It was very supportive

Representative Sestak is also very pro-LGBT Rights. He has been one of the initial cosponsors of the DADT repeal since it was introduced, and has testified repeatedly regarding that issue. However, I am not sure where he stands on UAFA, so that may require some more investigation.
