I think it is time for the Religious Communities to realize that they are not being trampled upon. All they have to look at is the history of the Civil Rights movement to understand that they are not at risk of being forced to have gays and lesbians in their congregations, or to officiate at their marriages. After all, even fifty years after the majority of the Civil Rights movement took place, Sunday is still the most segregated day in the week.

People will not go to churches that they are uncomfortable with.

What the Roman Catholic Church is risking is a situation like there use to be in this country where Catholicism was as reviled as Islam is today, and worse.

Thanks Bridge for this – this discussion could not be more important than NOW. Rep Gutuirezz is holding a big huge ” Families Freedom and Faith Call to action next week. with call ins and house parties across USa re Comprehensive immigration reform which he is about to author for the House. Although he is pro LGBT we are not sure if he is going to include UAFA in the bill. Immigration Equality and members of congress have put us in a position that if we are not included – G-d knows what happens next. Where will that place UAFA as a stand alone. Which in my opinion we should have pursued instead of CIR. But now we have to pursue CIR and so unless LGBT people get there voices heard at this telephone call to acvction – we are at even graver risk- truth be known – my local Marin community (Lynn Woolsey’s district) is already having feedback from Church communities that they do not want to include LGBT at all. .
