Today, after reading that Elizabeth Smart‘s female captor, Wanda Barzee, received a sentence of 15 years in prison, I decided to start a column in honor of a very brave spokesperson for women’s safety, young Elizabeth Smart, and after finding my first consumer related travesty I named the column LEZ BE SMART.
The entire article can be read here http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-elizabeth-smart18-2009nov18,0,6807810.story
The idea came when I looked up my new office location on the National Sex Offender regisrty to find a competing bevy of sites all claiming to have the ultimate access and accuracy. Punch in your zip and up pops the message – “we have found ten sex offenders in your area…. give us your credit card number and pay $$ and then we will show you who they are.”
Amazing how many sex offender registries sites are online, the LEZ BE SMART amongst us find that all you need do is go to this website at the Justice Department and there will be no charge at all for the same information.

In naming this column Lez Be Smart Iplan on reporting on ALL consumer related matters, including matters of safety.
