Meredith Baxter To Marry Longtime Lesbian Partner

Former Family Ties star Meredith Baxter is reportedly getting ready to marry her longtime partner.

In an interview with Today show host Matt Lauer earlier this month, the 62-year-old Baxter revealed that she had had a “later-in-life recognition” of her sexuality and has been in a relationship with her partner 54-year-old building contractor Nancy Locke for four years.

Now according to the National Enquirer, the couple is preparing to make their union official. However, Baxter and Locke are residents of California, and will not be able to marry in their home state. California’s Proposition 8 eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry last year in that state.

A source says the couple reportedly plan to go elsewhere, “They’re talking about getting married either in Canada or Massachusetts.”

Baxter, a three time Emmy winner, is best known for her role as Elyse Keaton in the series Family Ties, on which she played the ex-flower-child mother of Michael J. Fox. But in 1994, Baxter also won a Daytime Emmy Award for her role as a lesbian mother raising a young son, in a CBS Schoolbreak Special titled Other Mothers.
