I’m not one to usually pick on Fox News. I never watch them, so they’re pretty irrelevant to me usually.
This morning, someone tweeted me this poll that Fox are doing about Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
The question: Is it time to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”?
Possible answers?
Yes. Sexual preference should not be a factor in allowing someone to fight for their country.
Not sure, but the policy was enacted for good reason — let’s wait for a review.
No. Serving in the military — especially combat — is a unique circumstance that the policy properly addresses.

Did that float right by you?
Sexual preference? Fuck off, Fox News. I’m starting to understand why the cool kids hate you. And it’s in the positive answer too.
Sure, my decision to only have sex with women could be construed as a preference. It’s a preference on the same level as I prefer to wear clothing in public, I prefer to eat 3 times a day and I’m happier when I’m breathing.
With the myriad of expressions available in the English language to describe a person’s inate sexual orientation, why “sexual preference”?
Because it baises the poll. It implies that these people in the military are choosing to behave in a way that is contrary to the norm. It places heavily the burden of action on the gay or lesbain service member, because they are the one prefering to behave this way.
Sexual preference is different — it’s like: lights on or lights off? And I don’t think that should be a military issue either!
