This morning, KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported that Corey Haim passed away due to what is believed to be an accidental drug overdose. The LAPD has confirmed that, at the age of 38, Haim has died. Haim was taken to a Burbank hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:30 a.m. According to the LAPD, Haim had been staying with his mother in North Hollywood, and the death appears to have been an accidental death. Although the LAPD has not confirmed this, there has been speculation that his death was drug related, as the troubled 80’s star was known for his battle with addiction.
Haim is best known for his roles in 80’s film such as “Lost Boys,” “License to Drive,” and “Dream a Little Dream.” He is also known as one of the “two Coreys” of the 80’s. His partnership with Corey Feldman made the two an unstoppable duo and Feldman appeared in all of the above movies with Haim. Haim fell out of the Hollywood game when he spun out of control due to his drug addiction. Haim said of his extreme addiction in an interview: “I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day — the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium — I’m not talking about the other pills I went through.”
Haim and Feldman staged a comback in 2007, when they appeared in an A&E reality show called “The Two Coreys,” which followed to two actors around during their daily lives and showed, specifically how they struggled to deal with their fame and the loss of it. One particularly touching storyline was when Haim, who had completed a stint in rehab, apologized to those he has wronged while he was high, which included Feldman.
Haim was nominated for a Viewer’s Choice Award at the 22nd Annual Gemini Awards in Canada for his role in The Two Coreys. He was voted #8 in the category of “Favourite Canadian” on a TV Series (not eligible for a Gemini) for his role in the A&E show. On February 7, 2008, Haim ran a paid ad in a Hollywood trade publication, Variety, stating “This is not a stunt. I’m back. I’m ready to work. I’m ready to make amends. Howe3ver, it was viewed as a stunt and possibly as an indication that he was back on drugs. Feldman stated his refusal to have further contacts with Haim until he recovered from his addiction. A & E decided against a third season of The Two Coreys and canceled it in July 2008.
Haim is set to appear in two films in 2010, “The Pick Up” and “SAD: Sad American Diet”
