Ellen DeGeneres Offers $30,000 To Constance McMillen Along With A Lot Of Encouragement

03/19/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Today, Tonic and Ellen DeGeneres had a surprise for Constance McMillen, the young lesbian whose desire to take her girlfriend to the prom caused a small controversy and the school district’s decision to shut down the prom rather than allow her to have the prom she deserved. Today, McMillen received from the two a $30,000 scholarship. Tonic, a digital media company, has also offered McMillen an internship. The scholarship was a result of money collected from Tonic readers, an anonymous donor, and the CEO of the company Pankaj Shah.

On today’s show, DeGeneres offered McMillen words of encouragement as the young lady moves forward with her lawsuit to force the school district to have the prom and reverse their discriminatory policy.

What follows is the clip from today’s show, enjoy.
