At 2:30 pm, in Washington, DC, Lt. Dan Choi pleaded “Not Guilty, Not Ashamed and Not Finished” to the charges both he and Captain James Pietrangelo face after yesterday’s arrest. The two are likely facing charges in both civilian and military courts given that both men were arrested in their uniforms. In the case of Lt. Choi, this is a definite since he is known to be still in the military. Captain Pietrangelo’s status within the military is unknown right now, and it may be that he will not face military justice over the incident yesterday.
That Lt. Choi will face military justice is all but assured given that Admiral Michael Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is incredibly angry at what both men did, and this may mean that everything that if Admiral Mullen can have the Judge Advocate General’s office throw at Lt. Choi he will.
At issue with any potential military charges is the fact that Lt. Choi was arrested in uniform.
The protests yesterday resulted in a number of arrests in both Washington DC and San Francisco where activists other than Choi and Pietrangelo staged a sit in at Nancy Pelosi’s offices. No word on just how many were arrested in GetEqual’s protest.
