Pope’s Brother, Georg Ratzinger, Admits To Ignoring Physical Abuse, Unaware Of Sexual Abuse In German Choir

03/09/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Monsignor Georg Ratzinger has stated that he physically abused pupils in his choir, and that he ignored to physical abuse that was going on at the school, but that he was unaware of any sexual abuse that was going on. The Vatican insists that its response to the allegations of sexual abuse have been swift and transparent. While the Vatican has sent inspectors, up until now, his brother’s, that is Pope Benedict’s, response has been to blame gay men for the abuse and try desperately to exclude them from the priesthood even when his own Church has found that gay men are not any more likely to engage in sexual molestation of children.

Vatican policies of the past have encouraged victims of sexual abuse to be silent about it. Often the Church tried to blame the victims for the abuse that they suffered rather than rectifying the situation. Often times, a molesting priest was moved from parish to parish in order to hide their abuses. Some underwent unsuccessful attempts via the Church to cure them of their pedophilia, but most of them returned to their child molesting as soon as the watchful eye of the Church officials were gone.

In the Netherlands, the head of a Benedictine monastery has admitted to sexually abusing children decades ago and resigned his post. So far, some one hundred seventy students have come forward in Germany to claim that they were abused. Most of the cases date to the 1960′s.

“These things were never discussed. The problem of sexual abuse that has now come to light was never spoken of,” Georg Ratzinger has said. Unfortunately for him, the issue was discussed among many within the Catholic Church going back decades. In point of fact, the scandal in Ireland regarding sexual abuse of children involved the resignations of four bishops. These men did discuss the sexual abuse of children. Whether or not someone talked to Monsignor Ratzinger about it is another matter all together.

Speaking about the physical abuse that occurred in some of the feeder schools into his own, Ratzinger stated “But I did not have the feeling at the time that I should do something about it. Had I known with what exaggerated fierceness he was acting, I would have said something. Of course, today one condemns such actions. I do as well. At the same time, I ask the victims for pardon.” Corporal punishment of students was banned in all Catholic schools and churches in 1980 under the direction of Pope John-Paul II.

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”- Edmund Burke.
