Janet Porter is the President and Founder of Faith 2 Action. In the past, Porter has said some controversial statements, such as “You cannot be a Christian and vote for Obama.” She wrote a creepy fiction story about Christians being forced into “re-education” camps if Hilary Clinton has won the Presidency. She has also been behind stunts such as urging people to send baby rattles and roses to Congress to signify their opposition to abortion and her effort to inundate the Capitol with “pink slips.” Yesterday, she spoke at the Generals International’s “Convergence 2010: A Cry to Awaken A Nation” conference in Dallas, Texas. The conference is by the Religious Right and for the Religious Right, featuring right-wing, self proclaimed “prophets.” The lineup at the conference included Rev. Harry Jackson who was called a “modern day Martin Luther King, Jr” because of his attempt to keep marriage equality from coming to D.C., Cindy Jacobs who “cast out demons” during her speech.

Porter focused her speech on how to use the media to spread the word of God and to give God’s people dominion over this Nation. She closed the speech with a prayer to God. She urges God to give the Christians more power than Oprah Winfrey to make CBS the “Christian Broadcasting Station” and to “Take from the unrighteous.” Taking from someone what is rightfully theirs doesn’t seem like a very Christian value. Porter is pushing her political agenda using religion as a medium through which to persuade people to her side of the issue. This kind of persuasion goes beyond separation of Church and State, it is trying to scare and trick people into voting a certain way and discriminating against certain people and exploiting religion to do so. Porter trying to wield religion as a weapon and by doing so she is insulting the God she claims to love and anyone who calls themselves a Christian.
