Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman Want $10,000 for a Photo Op

The Huffington Postobtained a copy of an invitation to a fundraising event for Michelle Bachman (R) and Sarah Palin, set to be held April 7th at the Minneapolis Hilton. The invitation outlines the costs involved if you would like to participate in the event, $500 per person for attendance at the General Reception and Dinner; $5,000 for a table of ten; and $10,000 per couple for a “Private Reception with Photo Opportunity.”

The money donated will, per campaign financerules, have to be spread among various committees. The first $2,400 would go to Bachmann’s primary election fund. The next $2,400 would go to her general election refund. And up to $10,000 can go to the Republican Party of Minnesota. But where would the rest of the money go? If two participants choose to purchase a private reception and photo oppackage, that covers the entire amount that can be raised by Michelle Bachman and the Republican Party of MN. Let’s say that five more people purchase reception and dinner, that more than covers the cost of the event…unless, that is, one of the featured politicians at the event is being paid to attend. I wonder which one that would be?    

Sarah Palin is all about the little guy. She loves the Average Joe, who works a blue collar job, doesn’t have any pretensions that any “elite people” have and loves his country. So why would she charge this “Average Joe” $10,000 to take a picture with her? Maybe because she loves money a lot more than she loves Joe. Palin’s fan base is full of people who are losing their jobs, both to competition overseas by greedy global corporations and because of the recession Americais currently entrenched in. Everyone has been touched, no one has escaped it. The “Average Joe” has a wife and children and Health Care Insurers are charging him higher and higher premiums and paying for less coverage than ever before. Joe can’t afford to attend this event. If Joe’s wife finds a lump in her breast, a biopsy could cost him the price of attending the event with her. If Palin had any respect for her supporters, she wouldn’t be a party to charging these ridiculous prices.
