What now Immigration Equality? What is Plan “B” Do you not think its time to push for Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) as a stand alone. Posted by Melanie Nathan 3-11-10 – “A pair of White House meetings Thursday designed to chart a path forward for immigration reform instead spotlighted the daunting obstacles ahead — and showed why many Capitol Hill insiders believe it’s quite unlikely an immigration bill will happen this year.”
After meeting with President Barack Obama, the leading Republican backing a comprehensive approach warned that a Democratic health care push could scuttle any chance of action on immigration in this Congress.
“I expressed, in no uncertain terms, my belief that immigration reform could come to a halt for the year if health care reconciliation goes forward,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said in a statement issued just after he and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) met with Obama. The March 21sters – ALL America Marchers and the LGBT immigration equality activists should take note that the motivation of the meeting about immigration reform on Thursday may have had more to do with appeasing the Latino community regarding exclusion of undocumented workers from health care reform.
In the meantime bi-nationals unlike some would have you believe the LGBT community and UAFA is not even remotely in the purview of Immigration Reform. I suggest you read my prophetic posts for the past 9 months and then bang down the door of Immigration Equality demanding a retraction from this CIR bandwagon performance. Immigration Equality MUST switch to a pure UAFA stand alone plan NOW!
This is the time….. no Marches for inclusion in Immigration reform – Marches for EQUALITY.. NOW. we stand mor chance, especially due to the negativity being expressed about Immigration Reform,
“At a briefing earlier in the day, press secretary Robert Gibbs did not sound upbeat about the legislation’s prospects and suggested there was little for Obama to do on the issue until there were signs of more GOP backing.”……………. and so much for bi-partisan!
