Pope Benedict Tries To Blame Everyone Else For Sex Abuse Scandal

04/15/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
There comes a point where the time for spreading the blame and trying to avoid the problem are not only detrimental, but insulting. Pope Benedict has finally gone from blaming the faithful to blaming the world for not repenting over what is, basically, a crime that he, himself, is complicit in perpetuating.

“I must say, we Christians, even in recent times, have often avoided the word ‘repent,’ which seemed too tough. But now under attack from the world, which has been telling us about our sins … we realize that it’s necessary to repent, in other words, recognize what is wrong in our lives….Open ourselves to forgiveness … and let ourselves be transformed. The pain of repentance, which is a purification and transformation, is a grace because it is renewal and the work of divine mercy.” ” Yes, because those darned Visagoths are busy trying to take down Rome again.

This is not a matter for the faithful to repent of. It is a matter of the Catholic Church and their patriarchal, idiotic, and sequestered leadership to wake up and realize that they are in trouble. This is not a matter for the Baptists, the Anglicans, and the other Christians to deal with. If someone who is a Baptist minister is caught molesting children, there is no hierarchy to protect him or her from the local police who will arrest them and make sure that they do not abuse children again. Instead, Pope Benedict is more than willing to try and go back to the days when the Church just quietly removed a problem priest and moved them to another parish in order to protect the Church and damn the children.

The problem is not repenting of sins, but a problem of not doing anything to protect the most vulnerable in the world- the boys and girls who look to those priests for guidance and who have their trust in their priests, in adults, and in the world violated and ruined. Child molestation is a scar that barely heals. It remains weak enough to be ripped open again and again.

Praying for forgiveness does not absolve one of the corporeal crimes committed by oneself. Even Christ said that. It is the center of the Covenant entered into between Noah and God.

Pope Benedict might want to consider the fact that this criticism is not coming from Pagans, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus. It is not coming from Baptists, Anglicans, Orthodox Christians, and Copts, instead, it is coming from the Catholic Faithful who are tired of having their trust in the Catholic Church abused and shredded because the Vatican believes that it is more important to protect the power of the hierarchy than it is to protect the lives and souls of children.

The Vatican has tried to claim diplomatic impunity- er immunity for its actions. If that is true, than it is possible for every single priest in a country to be expelled.

As this scandal creeps its way into Sweden, the Vatican wants to find some one else to blame. It seems as if they are now almost desperate enough to blame the Goths and Huns for this scandal instead of looking inward and cleaning house.

The Vatican is approaching a point where they will no longer have none left to follow them than a tiny cult like group who will believe anything and everything that the Pope does is alright.

The pope must stand on the balcony and confess his sins to the molested in St Peters Square. He must beg for forgiveness. The forgiveness will come more easily if the victims were generously compensated for his sins.

I would just accept them taking responsibility and seeing that these monsters are behind bars.

ditto, Bridg. There is a right way to handle this and a wrong way. It’s too late for those who have already been victimized, but the Pope can help children now by putting these priests into the justice system. He is actively choosing to put more children in danger.

It is a shame that a wonderful religion such as Catholicism is prey to “organizational politics” that seems to not worry too much about all of the young people who’s souls and spirits are harmed in the process. I can think of no greater moral dilemma for a child than to try to untangle faith, sexuality and authority of teachers. Where does the Catholic church confess it sins?
