The repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Legislation, is moving with lightening speed. Tonight the House is voting on the Repeal.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi believes she has the votes and is forging ahead without delay. Of course the compromise will apply, where in three months reports will yield the ultimate result.

The Repeal legislation passed the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier today with a 16-12 vote in favor of the repeal Bill. Lezgetreal will keep you informed all night.

Said Sue” Fulton, a 1980 West Point graduate and a Founding Board member of Knights Out, “The “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy remains in place, but the SASC vote today was a major step. I can’t help but note that tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of the first women graduating from West Point – my West Point class.

He’s wrong. Our next work is with the Department of Defense: to ensure that the Working Group gets good, complete, unbiased data – and that their leaders honor the values they claim to uphold. To them I would say: since everyone now admits that gay men and lesbians ARE serving in our military, I have to ask our military opponents: What is it about our truth that will make you weaker?”

I also can’t help but note that one of our fiercest opponents back then was a former Marine named James Webb – and that Senator James Webb continues to cling to a romantic notion that only straight men can be warriors.”

UPDATE – TONIGHT The Repeal of DADT in earnest -  took a positive turn when it passed in the HOUSE with over the 216 votes needed, and included 2 Republican Votes.  See updated Post by Bridgette P. LaVictoire  at http://lezgetreal.com/?p=34587

Robin McGehee from GET=EQUAL told Lezgetreal – “GetEQUAL feels that it is great that the SASC voted with the House in our favor to BEGIN to repeal DADT – but still we wait. There is no clear end in sight and we still have the same question we had when we started – Exactly WHEN will the discharges STOP?

The best analogy that I can come up with – we FINALLY have a vehicle to move towards repeal, but sadly the parking break is still on and there is still damage being done to those effected by this hateful legislation.”
