Rep. Tammy Baldwin and Partner Lauren Azar Dissolving Partnership

05/29/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Sigh…and now for some bad news. Representative Tammy Baldwin and her partner of fifteen years, Lauren Azar, are terminating their domestic partnership. Neither wishes to comment upon the reasoning for why they are doing so. They first entered into the domestic partnership last year.

Ms Azar is on the Wisconsin Public Service Commission. She was appointed to that Commission in 2007 by Governor Jim Doyle.

Rep. Baldwin was first elected to Congress in 1996. She is the first open lesbian to sit in Congress, and one of only four openly homosexual individuals to do so.

Rep. Baldwin has been an outspoken advocate for LGBT rights this past year, including helping to champion the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

We at LGR are sad to hear of their split, and ask that everyone please respect their privacy throughout this difficult time.
