Anti-LGBT State Rep Sally Kern Facing Transwoman Brittany Novotny In November Election

Democrat Brittany Novotny is running against Sally Kern, the Oklahoma state representative who believes that “the homosexual agenda is just destroying this nation”.  Novotny is a straight woman who was raised male.  She had genital reconstruction surgery and fully transitioned three years ago.  She is Oklahoma’s first known transsexual candidate.

Novotny insists that this is not about gender politics, but rather about the fact that Kern has been pursuing her own agenda while in office instead of working for the people of her district.  Novotny stated “For six years, we’ve had someone who has not represented her district, has been ineffective on problems, and is bad for business.”  Kern fired back that this is just the usual campaign rhetoric.  Kern has vowed to not mention Novotny’s gender reassignment during the campaign stating that there are enough issues that they disagree about without needing to bring that in.

Kern has agreed to only one debate on the issues.  Kern gained national attention by trying to blame the economic problems of the nation on moral decline.  In 2008, Kern stated: “I’m not gay-bashing. But according to God’s word that is not the right kind of lifestyle.  Studies show no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades.  It is not a lifestyle that is good for this nation.”  Of course, Kern tried to state that she was not bashing people, and that her words were edited and taken out of context.  “I was talking about an agenda. I was not talking about individuals.  They have the right to choose that lifestyle. They do not have the right to force it down our throat.  I have never said hate speech against anybody. I would never do that.”  Kern is the wife of a Baptist minister.
