Constance McMillen’s life has been turned upside down ever since her school district forbade her to come to the prom with another girl. She has become the face of the teen LGBT right movement and people all over the nation have heard her story. Because of all the media attention, Constance had to change schools and graduate in a class that was not her own. In fact, Constance USA today that her name wasn’t even on the graduation programme. Still, Constance has a lot to look forward too. She will attend a White House reception Tuesday for the LGBT community in recognition of gay pride month. President Obama will host the event and address the attendees.

On Friday, Constance will be the guest of honor at a Spector benefit concert in Woodstock, N.Y. Spector is best known for her hits with the Ronettes in the early 1960s. The money that the benefit raises will go both to Constance’s education (she plans to attend community college in Memphis and later transfer to the University of Southern Missippi) as well as to ACLU’s LGBT Project and AIDS Project.

Next on Constance’s busy agenda is the NYC Pride Parade, where she will serve as one of the Grand Marshalls, alongside DADT activist Lt. Dan Choi and Judy Shepard.

Constance says of her experiences, “I’ll never get my senior year back, but the experiences that I have had because of this have really made it a lot easier. It has really helped me.” After going through such a test of character at a young age, it seems likely that the future holds great things for Constance.
