First Uganda, Now Texas Wants To At Least Imprison Homosexuals For Being, Well, Gay

06/21/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
How can both the state of Texas and the Republican Party sink further and further into the territory of a third world nation? By advocating the same policies as Uganda when it comes to homosexuality. What is more, these are the same policies that were, in fact, outlined by the German government in the 1930′s with regards to homosexuality. Their idea, to imprison people for being gay.

Complaining, once again, about the fact that the United States Supreme Court has overturned Texas, and the nation’s, sodomy laws, the Texas Republican Party has demanded that Congress “exercise its authority granted in the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the Federal courts in cases involving sodomy.” Of course, the fact that no such authority exists, and the fact that the Constitution allow the Federal courts jurisdiction over any and all state laws and constitutions seems rather irrelevant when it comes to these goose-stepping thugs. The case Lawrence v. Texas obliterated any and all sodomy laws in the United States. They were deemed unconstitutional, and thus, no state can ban homosexuality. Of course, throwing lesbians and gays into jail for the fact that they are lesbian or gay simply shows just how like the former German government they are, and the current governments of many African nations including the nation of Uganda which is battling over a law which would either execute or imprison lesbians and gays for being, well, as Nature had intended.

Of course, the Texas GOP is more than willing to decry the fact that they are called bigots, and that they are being compared to one of the most repressive and totalitarian regimes in history as well as being identified as belonging to the same form of bigotry that the nations of Uganda and Malawi belong to. In their party platform, they state “We affirm that this section is a response to the attacks on traditional family values. These include well funded, vigorous political and judicial attempts by powerful organizations and branches of the government to force acceptance, affirmation and normalization of homosexual behavior upon school children, parents, educational institutions, businesses, employees, government bodies and religious institutions and charities. These aggressive, intolerant efforts marginalize as bigots anyone who dissents.”

Still, it gets worse. While wanting to negate the Constitution with regards to the rights of other states to grant contracts which have to be recognized by all states, something that the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutionally attempts to do, the Texas GOP stated “We support the definition of marriage as a God–ordained, legal and moral commitment only between a natural man and a natural woman, which is the foundational unit of a healthy society, and we oppose the assault on marriage by judicial activists. *** We further call on Congress to pass and the state legislatures to ratify a marriage amendment declaring that marriage in the United States shall consist of and be recognized only as the union of a natural man and a natural woman. Neither the United States nor any state shall recognize or grant to any unmarried person the legal rights or status of a spouse.” That is right, because they have a belief that it is time to return this nation to the days of theocratic dictatorship just like the kind that exists in nations like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Afghanistan under the Taliban. Never mind that this nation is suppose to protect its citizens from religious oppression from the state, even though it often fails to do so properly as many rich Christians try to impose their own form of Christian oppressive Sharia on this nation.

Perhaps the Texas GOP would like to go back to the days when it was deemed alright for a man to beat his wife and children; that a man was allowed to rape his wife if she refused to have sex with him; that a man was allowed to take his wife to the surgeon for a clitoridectomy if she was too forceful or too strong; that a man had the right to imprison his wife if he so chose by finding complicit doctors who would testify that she was insane. Perhaps they want to return this country to the days when slavery was rife, and anyone who was of a different color was treated as being inferior to whites.

Of course, they want to make it a felony for anyone to grant marriage licences and perform marriage ceremonies for anyone who is not biologically male or female, and only between a biological male and a biological female. Of course, such a law would violate the religious freedoms of anyone who believes in marriage equality, but then again, those people are not “real Christians” in the views of these people, and their religious views should be expunged from the nation because this is, after all, “a Christian nation” in the same way that Iran is a Muslim nation.

Of course, one Texas GOP member stated: “‘Sending a homosexual to the penitentiary certainly isn’t a very bad punishment for a homosexual’ because of sexual interactions between male inmates, so a life sentence would be inadequate.”

“We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases, and is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans.” Yes, roughly three quarters of all Texans believe that, but then again, these are the same Texans who blithely went along with changes to their textbooks which will teach people about the “feminist icon” Phyllis Schlafly, and teach that it was Adolph Hitler who first coined the phrase “separation of Church and State” by writing out Thomas Jefferson from their textbooks.

Of course, they believe that because they have spent their lives being indoctrinated into the belief that anything other than heterosexual normality is wrong, and they probably also believe that sex between two people of the opposite sexes and different races “tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases, and is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans,” who, incidentally, instigated a war on behalf of slavery because the White founders of Texas were too busy ignoring the Mexican laws that they agreed to regarding slavery and imported their slaves. What is more, those statements were, once, used to argue against interracial marriage. It is nothing more than the same rhetoric dusted off for a new generation of bigotry.

A new victim identity seems to have been inserted into the collective evangelical mindset. And so Texas GOP writes “We affirm that this section is a response to the attacks on traditional family values.” Woe to us persecuted Christians. We are under attack. How dare marriage equality challenge our sacred cow of heterosexism! It is unfortunate that so many people in America are spiritually lost. So many fail to find genuine inner peace, stillness or unity. Instead they perpetuate negativity, dischord, and separation.

Why are we fighting terroist . maniac religious people in Afghanistan, while we have people of almost identical morality here in America.

The republican party of Nixon, who if you exclude his disgracing his office re the watergate affair, was very progressive.

But now that the so called evangelicals – the exact same people / culture that gave us slavery and segregation and now have had their worst nightmare come true – the election of a Black President, the truth comes out. The utter rednecks and Talibangelicals have captured control of the republican party. Soon they will be demanding that gays be sent to concentration camps.

And of course it is all done in the name of a corrupt version of God. Hell can;’t come soon enough for these ‘people’, 50 million deaths in WWII (which included the tossing of gays along with Jews into hitlers ovens hasn’t taughgt them anything about the difference between hate and love.
