Lt. Dan Choi and Sandra Bernhard Rally for NYC LGBT Youth

LGBT youth make up one third of homeless children in New York City. These are children who have had to leave their homes because of their sexual orientation. The city’s shelter’s for them have recently been attacked by anti-gay vandals. To make matters worse, funding for these shelters is on the chopping block as the city makes massive budget cuts. Which would be devastating to these children, who are not necessarily welcome in traditional shelters.

Yesterday there was a protest in Union Square to protest the vandalism of a LGBT youth shelter in Queens as well as the massive budget cuts. Lt. Dan Choi, best known for his DADT activism and Actress Sandra Bernhard. The rally was organized by the Ali Forney Center and hundreds of people showed up to lend their voices.

Lt. Dan Choi was especially instrumental in bringing passion to the rally, leading the crowd in booing New York City Councilman Lewis Fidler.

Lets hope that the council heard their voices.
