There are reports coming out via Facebook that there are problems internally to the Human Rights Campaign. The HRC has billed itself as the premier LGBT Organization in the nation, but the grassroots and netroots of the movement have long been critical of the waste, ineffectualness, fraud and mismanagement within the organization.
There are reports that Jarrod Chlapowski was going to pull out of the HRC, but decided not to. It is impossible to determine the validity of this since any post regarding this has been pulled from his page.
Many lesbians, gays, transpeople, intersexuals, bisexuals, and others within our movement have been largely disappointed with the way that the HRC has conducted themselves with regards to the issues which effect our lives. There is a certain feeling that the HRC as well as the other major organizations within Gay Inc., as it is becoming known, are more interested in the money that they can make than in achieving equality. In the wake of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell compromise, there was a feeling that the Gay Inc. groups, and especially the HRC, had betrayed the movement and not done enough to adequately counter the military’s desire to put off repeal as long as possible.
If the reports are true that there are problems within the HRC it may signal a shift in how the organization moves forward in the future.
Anonymous sources close to the entire issue have stated that Chlapowski is unhappy with how the HRC has been pushing him aside when it came time to debate the repeal of DADT. Chlapowski is a veteran. The HRC has been disparaging of the veterans, according to this source, and not willing to let the veterans have a large say in the process of getting DADT repealed. Chlapowski is trying to extricate himself from the HRC. There is concern that the HRC might try to disparage and destroy Chlapowski should he leave.

Transgender people begun waging serious war on HRC starting in 2007 with ENDA so they threw us a inclusivity bone by writing gender expression into their mission statement and quelled the uprising. Since then they have been absent from the gay agenda but amazingly have played as a strong advocate for transgender issues in the work place albiet sans grass roots advocates. Go figure.

I totally agree with everyone, it just seems like HRC is only trying to get money. I have not seen anything being done on their behalf at all. It just seems that every email I get is just to make a donation. My money is going to go to the places that I see that are actually working towards equality, not where someone is going to be making $450,000 and get nothing done!

It seems that HRC is becoming the gay version of the United Way.

HRC is like the homeless addict on the street corner. They ask for money and say it is going to a good cause. Once you give them some money, they never leave you alone and even though you give them money, you never seem them putting it towards that good cause they claimed for which they were going to use it.
HRC is a business. I only give my money to a business when it provides me some tangible product in return. I made the mistake of giving them money once…..and only once.
(For any homeless addicts offended by my comments for being compared to HRC, accept my apologies.)

Thanks Bridgette. Here was this piece today too re GET EQUAL and HRC. … regarding LATimes piece by Bottini that noted this as reason we LOST Prop 8. I am in CA I know we lost because they had no way to display Gay Couples and Families as NORMAL everyday, co-workers, friends, neighbors, parents, teachers, police, firemena, nurses, doctors, etc etc etc.
Not just gay white men going to Gala parties. That is what we need.

Not to worry we will have Chlapowski’s back. it seems that the grassroots LGBT groups are the ones pushing he envelope on modest to nothing budgets. I say let HRC funnel their funds to these groups to help them become even more effective. I stopped funding them years ago when they didn’t support trans in ENDA.

Joe Solomonese took a salary of over $450,000.00 last year.
Happily making money off the suffering of LGTB citizens.
Just saying…

One year’s salary for Solomonese would pay off my student loans, buy this house outright, pay for my GRS AND have a bit left over!
