Acting President Wins Polish Special Election

07/04/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
In the Polish special election that was held today, the winner is acting President Bronislaw Komorowski.  His opponent, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, has conceded defeat after the results of the election came down to 53% for President Komorowski to 47% for Mr. Kaczynski.  Jarsolaw Kaczynski is the twin brother of the late Lech Kaczynski who was killed when his plane crashed in Russia this past April.

President Komorowski is the head of the Civic Platform Party which currently holds power in the Polish Parliament.  Mr. Kaczynski is the head of the opposition Law and Justice Party which he and his twin brother founded.  They founded the LJP based upon their own Catholic beliefs, and the party tends to have a strong bent towards the traditional values held by the Catholic Church which tends to stress no contraception, abortion, or LGBT rights.

The official results will be announced Monday.

Addendum:

This was based upon exit polling and the fact that Mr. Kaczynski had already conceded the election.
