AFTAH To Hold Conference To Try And Remedy “Homosexual Agenda”

The anti-family, anti-equality, anti-LGBT, anti-reality, anti-truth organization Americans for Truth About Homosexuality has scheduled a three-day conference in order to fight the supposed “homosexual political agenda in the United States.” Apparently, they believe that there is an agenda which is news to most lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transpeople since none of us got anything in the mail the day we came out informing us of the supposed agenda that we were suppose to be enacting.

The Americans for Truth Academy will be “probably one of the most comprehensive pro-family conferences on homosexuality ever to occur in the United States.” By that, Peter LaBarbera, the president and founder of this anti-family group means that they wish to make sure that everyone follows their form of family values. What he never wants to say is that this would ultimately mean that divorce would have to be illegal, and that men would be allowed to rape their wives if they refused to have sex and beat their children if they talked back. After all, this is what true Biblical family values means. One has to wonder if they will include the right for daughters to get pregnant from their fathers by getting them blind stinking drunk as occurred in the story of Lott.

Supposedly, LaBarbera organized this conference in order to counteract the large number of similar events being held by “homosexualists”. Of course, the fact that there have not been a huge number of these events occurring via planning, but usually in response to the National Organization for Marriage’s rather sad and failed attempt to rally the troops for “traditional marriage,” such as the stuff described above, and are usually set up with very little notice and drawing somewhere between two and five times the number of protesters than NOM can dig up bigots.

LaBarbera stated:

“I have a little Irish blood but I’m also Italian, and when political correctness and the thought police tell you what not to do it only makes me want to do more of it, and so in this case the gay thought police are basically saying the issue is over and there is no other side, and so I thought we have to start educating people on the agenda.

“The gay movement has made significant headway through personal instruction and firsthand training. They’ve got the Creating Change Conference from the National Gay and Lesbian Task force which trains thousands of people per year. We’re completely outgunned on this issue,” said LaBarbera. “We face a variety of homosexual activist groups that have set specific purposes whereas we try to deal with the issue with our generalized pro-family groups, which do good work on homosexual issues but don’t do enough.”

“Clearly what the pro-life movement has accomplished is they’ve changed the paradigm, and they’ve gotten people thinking about the life of the unborn child, about the human rights issues at stake, about the innocent victims of abortion on demand, and I think what has not happened on the homosexual issue is the basic talking points of the pro-gay movement have not been addressed adequately.”

Actually, the anti-choice movement has been successful in reaching politicians not the youth of the nation who are, by and large, in favor of abortion with certain restrictions. Republican politicians who have their hands out in order to get funding from fundamentalists. Most people would choose not to have an abortion, but would also demand that it be kept legal. Of course, calling the youth of America “brainwashed” because they support the rights of people that they know may not be the best way to reach the youth of America.

LaBarbera stated that he intends to “reach them with some in-depth training because they’re completely ignorant … The polls show that young people are more pro-life and more pro-gay at the same time. And I think that speaks volumes about the problem that we’re in and the long term debt that we face on this issue unless we educate people on what’s really at stake with the debate.”

Yes, people are more pro-life. They are pro-“I-would-not-have-an-abortion-unless-it-was-absolutely-necessary”-life, and not pro-“I-want-to-make-abortion-absolutely-illegal-in-all-forms”-life. Most people are pro-life and pro-choice (including myself).

Of course, LaBarbera is not a hater, or so he says:

“We’re not haters, we’re people who simply disagree with homosexuality, profoundly, we believe it is immoral, that it’s changeable, that it’s unnatural, that it’s against God. We don’t shrink from those beliefs. But to equate the advocacy of those beliefs with hatred is itself an act of bigotry and hatred against people of faith and against people of moral persuasion.”

Those who would seek to deny African-Americans rights would be known as racists. Those who would seek to deny Jews rights would be known as anti-Semites. Those who would seek to deny women rights are known as misogynists. Those who seek, as LaBarbera does, to deny lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transpeople rights are rightfully known as homophobes and bigots.

Of course, they are running this from 5 August to 7 August at the Christian Liberty Academy in Illinois. They will have a bunch of people from Liberty University including the law professor who has never managed to actually win a case trying to defend Lisa Miller from actually having to comply with the law. Of course, not speaking there is George Rekers who would be an expert on how to not get caught being gay while secretly being gay and manufacturing evidence to support his bigotry and hatred.

People for the American Way will be showing up to protest the conference, as have the Gay Liberation Network. LaBarbera has also said “We already know the Gay Liberation Network, which is a radical homosexual hate group, has announced that they’re going to protest us. … we expected that. The reason that we did not open this event up to gay activists who want to attend, the National League of Gay Advocates, is that there is a history of homosexuals using direct action to disrupt and intimidate people. We’re not going to tolerate that here. We are taking some precautions, there is be security. If anybody does try to disrupt this they will be ushered out.”

Of course, one should point out just how many lesbians, gays, transpeople, and bisexuals have been assaulted, raped, and murdered because of men like LaBarbera, and how many have committed suicide because of his bigoted beliefs.

No word if Get Equal will actually show up to heckle or attack LaBarbera and his group of hate-mongers.
