Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center has decided to have a full slate of events for the next few weeks. Jones has called upon his followers to first protest the election of Gainesville, Florida mayor Chad Lowe, who is openly homosexual, and then to hold a book burning- specifically burning the Qu’ran, the holy book of Islam. Spelling it in the Anglicized version, Jones has set up an “International Burn a Koran Day” on 11 September. This will happen a bit more than a month after his 2 August “No Homo Mayor” protest against democracy.
Jones’ church is self-described as “a New Testament Church” “based on the Bible, the Word of God,” and that they “believe that God is calling a new generation in this end time– a generation of believers that is yielding to his Word and his will.” They also say “Our Land needs strong churches that understand and fulfill God’s vision of restoration and reformation,” and that “churches that are able to handle the revival we will see this century with the apostolic anoiting, and bring Godly changes to our entire society.” In other words, the Apocalypse is coming, for the fiftieth or ten thousandth time since the Bible was first written.
Lowe was the subject to a series of attack leaflets organized by Jones’ church. The leaflets told voters that Lowe would support an agenda including “Gays in Women’s Restrooms,” “Gay Marriage,” “Gay Public Sex Education”, and “Gay Oriented Churches.” Of course, given that many lesbians use women’s restrooms without so much as a problem, one has to wonder what Jones is referring to. He is probably referring to the transgender protections offered by the city. Critics, of course, claimed that sexual predators would use the ordinance as a cover to gain access to women’s restrooms in order to prey upon women, but that does not seem to have happened at all, and the voters reaffirmed the ordinance in Marcy of 2009.
According to Jones and his church “What is homosexuality? Detestable, indecent, wicked, offensive, perverted, shameful, unnatural, degrading, impure, futile, foolish, godless, dishonorable, a lie.”
Jones’ believes that Islam is the work of the Devil and homosexuality is evil. He hates President Obama because he is African-American, and one has to wonder just what limit his prejudices know. Probably none.

It’s amazing that these people get all the press they do. The ‘church’ family can’t number more than 50 individuals and their main focus is selling furniture on e-bay. Jones is a scam artist who is misusing religion to make a name for himself.

The answer to hate is not more hate. There are good, bad and ugly in all groups. So if this Church group wants to burn Koran, let them, they are just paper. The word of God does not get destroyed, the Crusaders beat them to Koran burning and it did not work. There were over 3000 people who were killed by hate on 9-11, over 300 were Muslim.
Thank you all those who see, hate injustice and intolerance and speak up. Hate is Un-American regardless who does it.
