07/27/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Public Policy Polling has a slew of new polls out, including one for the race in California between Senator Barbara Boxer and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina. As it stands right now, Boxer is leading Fiorina 49% to 40%, and Boxer has been increasing her lead over the last several polling cycles. People also prefer Boxer’s hairstyle to Fiorina’s 19% to 16% with the majority either not knowing or not caring. Of course, one thought about Fiorina’s hairstyle is that it looks rather butch. Fiorina caused a flap not long ago by making a comment about Boxer’s hairstyle while sitting in front of a live mic.
Boxer is having some problems. Her approval rating is only 44%, and her disapproval rating is 46%; however, 40% of Californians have a negative veiw of Fiorina, and only 28% have a favorable one. 32% have no opinion on Fiorina at all yet.
The boost in Boxer’s numbers have come from Democrats, who now approve of Boxter with 72% of those polled, and Independents, where 40% now support her. Currently, only 56% of Republicans support Fiorina, and 25% are unsure of the woman who was once voted as one of the twenty worst CEO’s of all time.
Dean Debnam, president of PPP, stated “Over the past few months, Boxer has been successful at reassuring voters that she is an effective advocate for California in the Senate, and has steadily increased her lead over Carly Fiorina.”
Another thing that is going on is that the insurgencies from the Left and the Right have started to peter out. The Tea Party has been having problems of late as their candidates tend to sound rather far beyond the Right Wing’s fringe, as evidenced by Sharron Angle and Rand Paul. Both candidates are running for seats that were once thought to be sure captures for the Republicans, but Angle is falling in the polling to Reid, and Paul is neck and neck with his opponent Conway. In New Hampshire, Kelly Ayotte is seeing her support flag after she was endorsed by Sarah Palin.
It is quite possible that the Republicans could end up picking up only one or two seats and losing far more. Should they lose Kentucky and New Hampshire as well as Florida to Independent Charlie Christ, the Republicans could find themselves shut out of the majority again. Unfortunately, until it is closer to the election, it will be impossible to actually get any clear idea of how things will turn out in November.

Barbara Boxer is one of the best Senators in the U.S. Senate today . I am proud to represented by Sen. Boxer. She stands up for what’s right and doesn’t back down. While Bush was president, many people were trying to recruit her to run for President. She spoke out against the Iraq War when many law-makers were silent. Fiorina is a failure as a CEO (she was fired) and has no political experience. I, certainly, hope that Californians will have the sense to re-elect Boxer.
