Last Friday, the eigth reported bias attack occured in a Staten Island park. The crimes have been aimed at gay men and latinos. Christine Quinn, an out lesbian and NYC Coucil Speaker addressed the crimes and how to move foward. She said:
“I am deeply saddened by the recent hate crimes in Staten Island, and my heart goes out to the friends and families of each of the victims. Just as disheartening as this trend is, my faith is restored by the strong commitment and efforts of Staten Island communities working together through the “I Am Staten Island” Coalition.
The launch of the “I Am Staten Island” Coalition website today marks an important step forward in the struggle to raise awareness of and educate our communities about the perils of hate crimes. It provides us with another critical tool for spreading the message that we will not tolerate these attacks and will do all within our power to see that perpetrators of hate-crimes will be aggressively sought out and brought to justice.
It is critical that all New Yorker know that, regardless of their immigration status, they do have rights and protections when it comes to reporting and filing charges for violent crimes. Under the city’s Executive Order 41, immigration status is considered confidential when it comes to reporting criminal activity.”

Christine, thanks for speaking out about this terrible situation that’s going on in Staten Island.
I have been facing a terrible situation for seven years already and the police or the D.A. Office has done nothing about it! The latest attack is on my sexual status and other things. Can you please help me and my family? Please?
