Dan Choi Arrested At Las Vegas Protest (Updated)

07/20/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Lieutenant Dan Choi has been arrested again, this time in connection to a protest in Las Vegas. Choi has been arrested a number of times in Washington, DC in the past over his penchant to handcuffing himself to the White House fence. Choi has denied repeatedly that he is associated with Get Equal, but he was arrested at a Get Equal protest.

Charges against him in DC were dropped due to a technicality. Apparently he was not standing on the sidewalk when the police officer told him to leave and arrested him.

There may be more as this story develops.

Lt. Choi has, in the past, had his own run ins with the staff of LGR, and has even accused myself, Bridgette LaVictoire and Dr. Paula Brooks of being the same person. This confusion comes because I tend to be rather reclusive and shy. Thus, no one in the movement has tended to see me or has met me.

Update: The target of the protest was Harry Reid, Senator from Nevada and Senate Majority Leader.  GetEqual appears to be keeping a tight lid on any and all information regarding what is going on.

Update2: Sen. Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Barney Frank, and Rep. George Miller were the targets of the protest.  The four have supported the now stalled Employment Non-Discrimination Act.  According to GE’s website “Our so-called “friends” in Congress who promised passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act this year have already conceded defeat.  It may not be nice and it certainly won’t get us invited to any fancy Washington cocktail parties, but we aren’t going down without a fight! Which Democratic leader do you think GetEQUAL should hold accountable?”

Update3:  Apparently, the eight who were arrested managed to bring traffic along the Las Vegas  strip to a halt briefly before they were arrested.  They were at Netroots Nation when this occurred.  They halted traffic at the Tropicana Avenue intersection.  It took them blocking traffic for ten minutes and refusing to let any traffic through.  Robin McGehee was also arrested.

I never argue with our people on message boards. My personal opinion (and that’s all it is) is that: sometimes our alleged allies need a swift kick in the butt. I think everyone in Washington is prone to what I call “Beltway Blindness” it renders them unable to see past the beltway and it leaves them out of touch with the rest of the country. (Again just my opinion) While I don’t agree with everything Dan Choi has done, some it has been useful in starting discussion. I feel from the tone of you reply you will disagree with me. And that’s fine, no one said we all had to agree.

They’ve accomplished more than Gladd has in the last 15 years. They may have embarrassed you, but I don’t feel embarrassed.

If, by that, you mean attacked our allies, gotten us a crappy compromise and a flawed survey, and lied every step of the way, then, sure, they’ve done a lot more screwing up the LGBT movement than GLAAD has in 15 years.

    The children are back.
This is another silly, ineffective publicity stunt that just makes the LGBT Community look like the Westboro Baptist Clan.
I guess they can afford to gamble in Vegas with their $90,000 salaries.
Jonathan Lewis (Progressive Insurance) wasted $500,000 financing this band of idiots.  They have embarrassed the LGBT Community and accomplished nothing.
