Exxon Mobile is the only Fortune 500 company without a non-discrimination policy regarding LGBT Americans. Today, Direct Action Network of San Antonio (DANSA) organized a protest of the company which has been described as the first direct action taken against a company by an LGBT group in San Antonio’s history.
DANSA’s Jason Morris, one of the co-founders of the group and a popular blogger on JaySays.com, helped organize this rally. He was not alone in the rally. C.D. Kirven of Get Equal Now and Mark Reed, a close friend of Ms Kirven’s, of Get Equal and the National Equality March were both there as well to protest Exxon Mobile during San Antonio’s pride weekend. They also hoped to raise awareness of the need to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
“We united against Exxon today to help put a stop to LGBT workplace bigotry! We are partners in the fight to achieve civil rights for the LGBT community and boycotting the homophobic policies of Exxon is an important part of that fight. This is not only a GET EQUAL effort or GET EQUAL NOW effort, it is a community wide effort to eliminate several decades of legal discrimination. This is about LGBT independence on independence day!” said C.D. Kirven co-founder of Get Equal Now.
Exxon Mobile was party to the second largest oil spill in American History, and the worst up until the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon this year. Exxon merged with Mobile in 1999. At the time, Mobile had an LGBT inclusive anti-discrimination policy and partner benefits. Those were jettisoned during the merger with Exxon.

My bird friends will stop soalking up all of their oil spills with their feathers until they get their discriminatory acts together!
