Diocese Of Rome Upset Over Priests Caught Hitting The Gay Clubs For Pickups

An Italian magazine owned by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has exposed a large number of Catholic priests going out to gay bars and having sex with men that they meet there. These men are having consensual relationships with other men in direct violation of their oath of celibacy and the teachings of their own Church.

Their actions have brought about the condemnation of the Italian Catholic diocese of Rome. The article in the Italian magazine Panorama detailed the sexual encounters of these priests and their trips to clubs. The diocese characterized their behavior as sullying the honor of all others.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that sex outside of marriage is sinful and homosexuality is unnatural. It is teaching these in a day and age when scientific research has shown that homosexuality is perfectly natural and many Catholics are refusing to get married because of the Church’s stance on divorce.

The diocese stated that they did not wish any ill-will against the priests, but that it was saddened and troubled by the article. They vowed to pursue “with rigor any behavior that is unworthy of the priestly life.”

In 2005, Pope Benedict instructed that all homosexual priests should be barred from seminaries. According to Pope Benedict, same-sex marriage is an “insidious and dangerous threat to the common good.”

The vow of celibacy has been a major contention within the Catholic Church of late with reformers supporting an end to that vow. A priest who recently came out in support of same-sex marriages in Argentina had proceedings started to have him removed from his position as parish priest within a week of making his statements despite the fact that many priests who have molested children are still in their parish seats.

In all likelihood, these priests who have been having sexual relations with adult men will be defrocked in short order.
