John Cornyn To Attend Log Cabin Republican Fund Raiser Next Month

The head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Texas Senator John Cornyn, has accepted an invitation to appear at a Republican gay and lesbian group’s fund-raiser in September.

The Log Cabin Republicans Political Action Committee invited Cornyn to the national group’s 2010 dinner in Washington, D.C. and Cornyn said he will attended the reception before the dinner to see if they can seek common ground.

“Some things we won’t agree on,” Cornyn said. “But I think it’s always better to talk and then try find those things we can agree on rather than just assume there’s no common ground whatsoever.”

Cornyn has voted against most LGBT issues and is opposed to repeal the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy prohibiting gays and lesbians from serving openly, all the while the LCR’s are challenging the law in a federal court, so one would wonder just how much common ground can possibly be found.
