Julianne Moore has stated her support for same-sex marriage rights in the United States. The star of The Hours, and The Kids Are Alright has been an icon in the LGBT Community for many years. In The Kids Are Alright, she plays the lesbian partner of Annette Benning. Moore has stated “Absolutely, everyone should have the same rights. It’s a right, no one should be denied that.”
Moore joins a long list of celebrities pushing for marriage equality. The Daily Show’s new regular Olivia Munn has voiced her disappointment that President Obama has not pushed harder for an end to marriage discrimination in the US. Moore is specifically working towards marriage equality in her home state of New York where Cynthia Nixon, most famous from Sex and the City, has also been pushing for marriage equality. Currently, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Iowa, and Connecticut along with Washington DC have laws allowing for same-sex marriage.
Though straight, Julianne Moore has, in the past, stated that she does like kissing her female co-stars in the various movies that she has engaged in female to female romantic kissing. Moore has appeared in several films with lesbian or gay themes in the past, and appears to be quite comfortable continuing to do so in the future.
