NOM Tour Brings In Fewer And Fewer People In Each Rally

07/22/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
The National Organization for Marriage stopped in Maryland on its way to obscurity only to garner a total of twenty protesters to support “traditional marriage”. In fact, things are going so badly for Brian Brown and NOM that he actually threatened to have a person arrested for documenting the pathetic protester numbers.

So far, NOM has only managed to bring in small numbers to their rallies for “traditional marriage”. Their Maine event had, perhaps, thirty people according to several reports, and the one in New Hampshire had roughly the same numbers. A further rally in Providence, Rhode Island supposedly brought in around a hundred NOM supporters, but that seems unlikely since most footage from that rally seems to indicate that NOM’s people were outnumbered rather heavily.

This is becoming something of an embarrassment for Brian Brown, and that appears to be the problem. On Wednesday, Brown tried to have Jethro Rothe-Kushel from the Courage Campaign Institute expelled from the rally and even had him threatened with arrest for taping the event. According to Eden James, “Incidents like this demonstrate why NOM’s ‘Summer for Marriage: One Man, One Woman’ national tour is becoming an unmitigated public relations disaster.”

Video taping a gathering held in a public area is not a crime, and the threats of arrest are a violation of Rothe-Kushel’s First Amendment rights. The officer did not want to explain on what authority he had to order Rothe-Kushel to leave the premises.

Here is the video from the event. It should be noted that, at this rate, the NOM Summer Tour is going to be a major public relations disaster.
