Target Donates To Anti-LGBT Minnesota Candidate

07/24/10-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
Target has been looking to expand into Vermont for some time now, but the time has not been right. Not long ago, Target was looking to expand into the Diamond Run Mall in Rutland, Vermont. With news that Target contributed some $150,000 to Minnesota Forward, a political action committee supporting Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, that may not be a wise idea. Emmer opposes same-sex marriage, and homosexuality period.

“I believe marriage is the union between one man and one woman,” Emmer is on record as saying. He is also good friends with Bradlee Dean of the Christian rock band You Can Run But You Cannot Hide. Dean has been quoted as saying that Muslim nations which execute lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transpeople are “more moral than even the American Christians.”

Rutland has been looking forward to a Target for some time now, but it may not be the friendliest place given that Vermont’s LGBT Community is the state’s largest minority.

According to Target, which is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, “Target supports causes and candidates based strictly on issues that affect our retail and business interests.” That is nice, do you know what it would mean if the LGBT Community across this nation stopped shopping at Target? The probability is that the store’s bottom line would get hit pretty hard.

Just a friendly thought. You know, we wouldn’t want anything to get in the way of Target’s bottom line like a boycott or anything nasty like that.
