Belgian authorities are investigating threats made to witnesses and magistrates related to the recent raids on the Catholic Church in Belgium. They have, so far, refused to say who the threats are coming from, but that they had been made to witnesses who gave information to the police and to the magistrates who may be hearing the case. According to Jean Marc Meillure, a spokesman for the public prosecutors office, “There are some threats against certain people around the case, and the prosecutors office is investigating that.”
Last month, the Catholic Church in Belgium was raided by police in order to gather information regarding the cases of child sexual abuse that have been reported in that nation. The feeling is that the Catholic Church has been less than forthcoming with regards to the cases, and many cases were being reported to the Church and not the police.
