Poor Ken Mehlman, he is reviled right now by people on both sides of the divide over same-sex marriage. On the one hand, many lesbians and gays hate his guts for what he did in ensuring that the Republicans rose to power while denying the rights of the LGBT Community, especially with regards to marriage, and his bastard child the National Organization for Marriage is busy denouncing him as vociferously as possible. What’s more, FOX News is totally ignoring him.
According to Think Progress’ Wonk Room, Mehlman was mentioned 19 times on CNN, and twelve times on MSNBC. He received no mentions on FOX. Of course, FOX tends to ignore stories that might embarrass the Conservative movement. For instance, they mentioned absolutely zero times the racial epithet laden rant by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Some Republicans have welcomed Mehlman’s coming out, including current RNC Chairman Michael Steele who said “His announcement, often a very difficult decision which is only compounded when done on the public stage, reaffirms for me why we are friends and why I respect him personally and professionally.”
Meanwhile, the monster he helped to create blasted his now push to help get same-sex marriage legalized. NOM released this statement regarding his coming out.
“We respect Ken Mehlman’s right to his personal life. Supporting gay marriage, however, is a very different and very public matter. The fight over same-sex marriage really isn’t about Mr. Mehlman’s personal life. Marriage, as a public legal status, is a man and a woman for a reason: It is the only civil institution that brings together the two halves of humanity to ensure the children they create have the best opportunity to be raised by their own mother and father. We will fight all attempts to redefine marriage to be something that it is not — a genderless, adult-centered sexual relationship centered on the alleged rights of adults and not the needs of children. The American people — including over 80% of Republicans and even 40% of Democrats — oppose same-sex marriage. NOM has already proven in races from New York to California that it is a particularly bad idea for Republicans to support gay marriage. The disconnect in Washington stems from politicans who refuse to pay attention to the values of the people they represent. If Mr. Mehlman wishes to help us elect pro-marriage GOP politicians, we welcome his support. If not, we welcome the victories that will come in the battle that must necessarily ensue.”
Many of us are awaiting the day when many of the people heading up NOM will be coming out of the closet themselves since it should be pointed out that up until he accepted his homosexuality, Mehlman was a fierce opponent of equality for the LGBT Community, and his behavior mimics the normal run of self-loathing behavior that many closeted and shamed lesbians and gays exhibit, and his behavior is not unlike that of the people running NOM.

Fox hasn’t ignored it entirely, there is a social conservative opinion piece online using the same tired canards about traditional marriage . But here’s an interesting outcome to a poll on their site asking whether Prop 8 violated the constitution. (Hint: huge majority in favor of equal marriage).

I probably should have been clearer in that this was largely ignored on FOX News on the TV, but thank you for the clarification

So what’s new. Seems that to be a republican your 1st order is to be a hypocrite. Second is to be a lier.
Third is to be so sociopathic that you could give a s#it when you are called on it. In my thinking the only thing worst than a heads up republican is a Gay republican politician, in denial.
There is no bigger hypocrite in the world. Being gay isn’t the issue but voting on,
and passing legislation that continually hurts these people just for their own enrichment is par with the Jews that aided the Nazis against their own for $$$. I understand there is a history of this in the Jewish Koch Bros family, the founders of the T-Party. It is unforgivable..
