Few bands have the staying power of Heart. The rock group fronted by the Wilson Sisters has gone through many changes in line up over the years, but Anne and Nancy Wilson have been at the core of this group for thirty-six and more years. In that time, they have never stopped recording. On 31 August, the group will release their thirteenth studio album Red Velvet Car. The album will include a rerecording of the song “Sand” from the Wilson fueled side project the Lovemongers.
The group is most famous for their song “Barracuda”, which is about the evils of the record industry. Still, the band has blazed the way for many female fronted bands and female artists over the years, and even influenced groups such as Alice In Chains.
For those who grew up on the rock fueled ballads of the 1980′s, the direction that Heart has been going on as they come through their fourth decade of recording is probably not as familiar. They have returned to the style closer to that which they began with back in the album Dreamboat Annie. That style is drawn heavily from the work of Led Zeppelin, whose songs they often perform, and sometimes perform better than the originals.
The ten song album will be out on 31 August not long before Heart wraps up their 2010 tour.
