Lindsay Lohan wants to redeem herself and her career now that she is out of jail and rehab. The process may not be easy, but she appears willing to try again. In the October issue of Vanity Fair, she discusses the trial, the rumors of substance abuse and trying to rebuild her career. She also appears on the cover of the magazine.
According to her, “I don’t care what anyone says. I know that I’m a damn good actress.… And I know that in my past I was young and irresponsible — but that’s what growing up is. You learn from your mistakes.” She also denies abusing alcohol and drugs “If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a [SCRAM] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room.”
Lohan may have talked to Vanity Fair about her relationship with Samantha Ronson, who visited Lohan regularly in jail and rehab. Rumors have swirled that Lohan’s problems with alcohol, drugs and rebellious behavior may be linked to her incomplete identity as a lesbian.
Lohan also talked about her associations with the wrong people “So many people around me would say they cared for the wrong reasons. A lot of people were pulling from me, taking from me and not giving. I had a lot of people that were there for me for, you know, the party.”
Like many girls growing up, she looked up to many of the women in the tabloids. She says “I would look up to those girls. . .the Britneys and whatever, and I would be like, I want to be like that.”
Regarding her father, Lohan stated “I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life.” She also talks about feeling heartbroken because of her sister’s attendance in court and seeing her sister crying.
Lohan has a lot on her plate including five twelve-step program meetings, two psychotherapy sessions and two behavioral therapy sessions a week. She will also be working on rebuilding her career. Her next film, Machete, comes out on Friday. So far, reviews on that have been lackluster, but not because of her acting.
“I want my career back. I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it. It’s not fun anyway.” October’s Vanity Fair goes on sale the end of this week.
