Republican representatives are backing a resolution that condemns a federal judge’s ruling that struck down California’s gay marriage ban, Proposition 8.
The resolution was introduced Tuesday by Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, POLITICO.COM reported.
Representatives Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, Steve King of Iowa and John Fleming of Louisiana joined Smith in unveiling the measure as lawmakers returned from their August recess for a special one-day session.
Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker’s 136 page ruling delivered on Wednesday declares Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional. Republicans have been quiet on the issue, perhaps because this is no longer the wedge issue it once used to be. More people our favoring Same-sex marriage, such as Laura Bush.
In announcing the resolution, Smith said he opposes gay marriage because it dilutes heterosexual marriage. What a fool I would be willing to wage my pinkie ring on my belief that these gay haters failed to even read the case, the judgment and especially the evidence – that showcases there is no fact or science to back this assertion.
As Mike Airhart stated so eloquently in TWO Truth Wins Out
“As lawyer David Boies points out to CBS News, Perry vs. Schwarzenegger dealt a serious blow to the junk science of the ex-gay movement. Challenged to produce empirical evidence of the inferiority and changeability of homosexual orientation, the Christian Right defenders of Proposition 8 failed — because their “science” doesn’t exist.”
Bachmann said that Walker’s ruling is another example of a “judge substituting his moral pronouncement under the guise of constitutional law.”
House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio said he supports the resolution.
Smith insisted that he was not playing politics by introducing the resolution, which is mostly symbolic and not expected to reach the House floor.
“I just think it’s wrong,” Smith said, then added that he felt the majority of Americans believe they should be allowed to vote on the issue.
Groups opposed to gay marriage – including the Family Research Council (FRC) and the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) – have renewed their calls for a federal ban on gay marriage. Such a measure would outlaw the institution in the five states and the District of Columbia where it is legal.

Congrats, America now looks like it is full of absolutely, unequivocally full-fledged idiots and morons. CANADA to the north of us has gay marriage, MEXICO to the south of us now has gay marriage. In between them, the U.S., like a weepy bunch of morons, cannot wrap their heads around the concept of equality. Countries to the north and south who don’t even SCREAM about equality like we so “proudly” do now have gay marriage — and these shockingly stupid people are still opposing it. Don’t tell me to be proud of this country. America is an embarrassment on the face of this earth.

Of course Boehner supports it. He had some idiot staffer awhile back trying to make the argument that homosexuality is a choice but religion is not. Love how the party of “constitution voters” always want to usurp the good intentions of the founding fathers (as well as John Stuart Mill).
