“Rest In Peace” was all that the note said, but State Senator Shirley Huntley from Queens, New York is absolutely certain that she was the target of a death threat from the LGBT Community, though it is certainly possible that someone dropped off a funeral bouquet at the wrong spot.
Still, Huntley is convinced that the bouquet of death came from marriage equality supporters. Among the things that she said in a recent mailer “There are forces that have invaded our community who: Have threatened Shirley Huntley, our hardworking state Senator; Have contributed more than $100,000 from outside the district to her opponent; Care about one issue only — gay marriage.”
Of course, as NY Daily News’s State Capitol Bureau Chief Ken Lovett recently found out, Huntly is in trouble because she oversaw a $30,000 state grant directed to a group run by her daughter at the home address the two share.
Her opponent, Lynn Nunes, has declined to comment, though Huntley has stated that the mailer was not directed at Nunes despite the fact that Nunes has garnered a lot of support from LGBT groups.
Originally, Huntley did not say who she suspected of dropping off the threatening bouquet. Of course, one would have to suspect someone who is in the habit of watching movies about the Mafia since they tend to do subtle death threats like horse’s heads in the bed. Most people are direct and just give an actual death threat.
