“An earthquake is beginning: If ‘gay is like black,’ then ‘Christian is like racist.’ The early warning signs are now taking place all over the globe. In New Zealand, Exodus Ministries was just stripped of its tax-exempt status, on the grounds that helping gay people lead Christian lives is not a charity.”- National Organization for Marriage
Yes, an earthquake is beginning- an earthquake of common sense. The Charities Commission in New Zealand has rejected the Exodus Ministries Trust Board’s attempt to keep its status as a charitable organization. In fact, the Commission flat out booted them out of the list of tax-exempt charities because they are not performing any public benefit because being lesbian or gay is not a mental illness. In other words, the Charities Commission sided with the scientific and realistic evidence against the mythology and psudoscience of Exodus.
The US based Exodus Global Alliance promises “freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ”, but has yet to actually back up any of its claims. The group even claimed to have a legitimate point of view and to be providing support to homosexuality during “very difficult times”. Of course, what they do not say is that they try to force people to stop being gay using techniques which have been proven ineffective at best and damaging at worst.
They compared themselves to Rainbow Youth Inc., a group aimed at raising the self-esteem of LGBT youth and their families. They decried Rainbow Youth’s continued charitable states because clearly an education provided by Rainbow Youth Inc. would be from a preconceived point of view, ie that homosexuality and other forms of sexuality are perfectly normal for some people.”
Of course, if the United States would just follow behind New Zealand and start yanking these fraudulent groups’ tax exempt status, then, perhaps, the country would be better off. Of course, NOM manages to really screw it up when the decried the decision in New Zealand. It is suppose to be “Gay is the new Black”, even though most people disagree with that statement. Oh yes, and not all Christians are homophobic. Just the people at NOM and the people just like them.
